根據美國疾病管制局CDC統計，目前全球已有4106例確定病例，47國出現疫情，也包括台灣的首例個案，疾管署副署長莊人祥今(26)日表示，國內目前正在與廠商洽談購買能預防猴痘的第三代天花疫苗，雙方已在進行視訊會議，但針對數量、到貨時間仍在討論中，但國內將爭取「年底一定要到貨」。

台灣與鄰近國家南韓、新加坡皆陸續出現首例猴痘確診個案，預防猴痘最主要的武器還是要有疫苗；指揮中心發言人莊人祥表示，目前國內已在向生產第三代天花疫苗的廠商視訊會議洽談中，除了疫苗臨床數據討論外，目前有關國內預計採購的數量、廠商預計販售的數量以及到貨時間都還在討論當中。

莊人祥表示，由於國際上猴痘疫情最嚴重地區如如英國、西班牙、德國僅百例確診個案，國內打算採購的數量不會太多，但國內防疫單位將爭取「年底一定要到貨」。莊人祥表示，若疫苗順利到貨，將可直接給符合適用條件的「一般民眾」接種猴痘疫苗。

目前國際上有生產第三代天花疫苗的巴伐利亞北歐公司，全年疫苗產能約3000萬劑。
